What Is Winter Wars

A casual, fun, winter‑season pickup series for kids and families who want to stay active, play hockey, and enjoy time together at the rink. No standings. No fixed teams. No pressure. Just winter hockey fun for all skill levels. Each age group will receive a weekly time slot. Players simply show up, get placed on a team for the day, and play.

Season Format

• 8 weeks of pickup games, no make‑up games or practices
• Saturday mornings, Nov 21 - Jan 16 (excluding Dec 26)
• No fixed teams or official coaches - rosters will shuffle weekly (parent volunteers needed to run benches)
• Age groups: 8U, 10/12U, & 14/16U
• Open to all skill levels
• Full gear required
• A limited number of Winter Wars jerseys are available from last year - first come, first served if your player wants one (please use previous Winter Wars jerseys if possible). Pinnies provided or other jerseys can be worn for games.

Weather Policy

We will not play if there is snow on the rink or the wind chill is below 25F. Safety and surface conditions come first, and please use your own discretion if you feel it is unsafe for your child. All cancellations will be communicated through BenchApp.

BenchApp Requirements

All registered players will be added to their age group’s BenchApp team. Families must set IN/OUT status each week so we can plan teams and ensure balanced play. The link will be shared after registration closes. 

BenchApp will be used for:

• Weekly reminders
• Weather‑related cancellations
• Time slot updates
• Quick communication with families

We WILL need volunteers to help manage the bench and ref. We can sign-off on volunteer hours for teen refs/"coaches".
